The Digital Humanities Lab at Exeter is a state of the art facility offering unique spaces, equipment and training for staff and students. A specialist team conducts and supports innovative Digital Humanities research, offers training and teaching, and undertakes the digital preservation and display of historic material and artefacts using advanced technologies.
Facilities include a visualisation and co-creation teaching suite, 3D makerspace lab, audio-visual studio and photographic studios.
The Lab's specialisms focus around four areas:
- Geospatial technologies
- 2D & 3D imaging
- Text editing & encoding
- Digital archives and data management
Particular strengths include the high-quality digitisation of 2D and 3D cultural heritage material, the development of interactive textual editions, and the creation and use of Linked Open Data for spatial and heritage applications. Expertise in software engineering and sustainability of digital resources provide a development and hosting service for long-term research resources.
A programme of research seminars and training in these and other specialisms, supplemented by online resources, provide a contribution to the Digital Humanities community to a wide audience.
