The British Oceanographic Data Centre (BODC) is the UK’s National Oceanographic Data Centre (NODC) and forms part of the Natural Environment Research Council’s (NERC) Environmental Data Service (EDS) - https://nerc.ukri.org/research/sites/environmental-data-service-eds/
We provide open access to over 100,000 datasets while managing and delivering in excess of 450 different oceanographic variables. BODC provides the user community with a centralised data ingestion-discovery-delivery service, taking in data for long-term storage, and providing data users with access to the full catalogue of NERC-funded oceanographic research data, plus significant volumes of non-NERC funded data.
BODC also operates the NERC Vocabulary Server (NVS) https://vocab.nerc.ac.uk/, a globally used resource and service, which gives access to well maintained controlled vocabularies for the digital capture of ocean data information.
BODC works in partnership with national and international research and data networks, including the UK Marine Environmental Data and Information Network (MEDIN), NERC Environmental Data Service, EU SeaDataNet and UNESCO Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) International Oceanographic Data and Information Exchange (IODE).
