14CHRONO Centre for Climate, the Environment and Chronology

Submitted by paula_reimer on Mon, 07/22/2019 - 11:59

The 14CHRONO Centre analyses a wide variety of carbon containing samples using Accelerator Mass Spectrometry (AMS) 14C to provide radiocarbon ages or fractions of modern carbon. We also provide AMS 14C analyses for archaeological companies, forensic investigations and industries interested in monitoring bio- vs. fossil based components. We collaborate with researchers around the world to construct radiocarbon calibration curves to convert radiocarbon ages to 'calendar' ages. We also provide...

ARK

Submitted by paula_devine on Mon, 07/22/2019 - 11:59

ARK is Northern Ireland's social policy hub, and is a joint initiative across Queen's University Belfast and Ulster University. Our goal is to provide open access information on the social and political context in Northern Ireland, in order to support the research and evidence base, to support civic society, and to inform, monitor and challenge policies. We provide open access public attitudes survey data, a comprehensive archive on material relating to the conflict in Northern Ireland (CAIN), d...

Biophysical analysis platform at John Innes Centre

Submitted by clare_stevenson on Mon, 07/22/2019 - 11:59

The Biophysical Analysis platform offers four techniques; Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR) Isothermal Titration Calorimetry (ITC) Mass Photometry (MP) and Circular Dichroism Spectroscopy (CD).

SPR and ITC are complimentary techniques that can be used to study the binding of biomolecules. They can be used to identity interactions and obtain data on the affinity, kinetics, stoichiometry and thermodynamics of the binding interaction.

Mass Photometry enables the accurate mass determination of...

UK Centre for Mammalian Synthetic Biology

Submitted by liz_fletcher on Mon, 07/22/2019 - 11:59

The CMSB is implementing engineering principles towards the application of synthetic biology of mammalian systems. While significant strides have been made in prokaryotes and yeast, applications in more complex mammalian systems are still in their gestation. The Centre builds on seven years’ productive multidisciplinary research across synthetic and systems biology, and will extend this to embrace Edinburgh’s world-leading expertise in cell biology, specifically epigenetics and stem cell biology...

Centre for Sustainable Technologies

Submitted by neil_james_hewitt on Mon, 07/22/2019 - 11:59

Ulster’s energy research Large Scale Energy System Analysis Eclipse developed by the University of Ulster is a techno-economic software tool utilising a mass-energy balance to determine capital costs and operating costs based on energy outputs, fuel costs and component costs. Electricity market modelling and simulation software that use for example stochastic optimisation techniques to integrate generation dispatch, unit commitment, optimal power flow and pricing simulations is utilised. Other...
