Authentication, Authorisation and Accounting Infrastructure and Services

Submitted by bob_day on Mon, 07/22/2019 - 11:59

The set of AAAI (Authentication, Authorisation and Accounting Infrastructure) services operated by Jisc provides a national framework for the management of access to RII resources across the UK. This framework includes authentication of an individual user of a RII; authorisation of that user to access RII resources; and, where appropriate, accounting for that use for charging or for auditing purposes (for instance where there are compliance implications such as those around access to sensitive...

Avon Longitudinal Study of Parents and Children

Submitted by nicholas_john_… on Mon, 07/22/2019 - 11:59

ALSPAC is a multi-generational study that began as a pregnancy/birth cohort. In 1991 and 1992, 14,500 pregnant women living in and around Bristol were recruited into the study. Detailed data have been collected on these women and their partners (the original parents, known as G0) and their children (the index participants, G1). In recent years the study has also enrolled the children of the children (G2).

The overarching objective for ALSPAC is to maintain its position as the premier multi...

BGS Landslide Observatories UK

Submitted by helen_reeves on Mon, 07/22/2019 - 11:59

Hollin Hill Landslide Observatory, North Yorkshire At Hollin Hill a system of monitoring landslide movement has been developed by BGS by combining geomorphological mapping, terrestrial LiDAR and real-time monitoring with geophysics. Scientific research at this site has been designed to enable BGS to accurately monitor and eventually aid the forecasting of movement of the landslide. It brings together a combination of field surveying, geomorphological, geophysical, engineering and...

BGS Marine Operations

Submitted by david_mcinroy on Mon, 07/22/2019 - 11:59

BGS Marine Operations is a marine engineering facility that provides sampling and sensing equipment to investigate seabed and sub-seabed geology and processes. The equipment includes 2 types of remote seafloor corer / drill:

  • RD2: a multi-barreled rotary drill and corer that can penetrate up to 50 m below sea floor and operate in water depths up to 4000m.
  • RD1: a single-shot corer that can be used as a rotary corer for rocks and harder sediments (penetrating up to 5m below sea floor) or as a...

BGS Rock Mechanics & Physics Laboratory

Submitted by helen_reeves on Mon, 07/22/2019 - 11:59

The Rock Mechanics and Physics Laboratory (RMPL) undertakes research on the physical properties and behaviour of rock specifically for: planning, design and construction within the civil engineering sector; extraction and storage within the energy sector; developing our understanding of near to surface to shallow crustal earth processes in order to help predict and mitigate the effects of small and large scale geohazards. The RMPL lab specialises in standard (ISRM and ASTM) and bespoke...
