The High-Field Solid-State NMR Facility (An EPSRC National Research Facility)

Submitted by professor_stev… on Mon, 07/22/2019 - 11:59

The UK High-Field Solid-State NMR Facility is based around a 20 Tesla wide-bore (89 mm) NMR magnet (corresponding to a 1H Larmor frequency of 850 MHz) equipped with a HFXY rf console and wide-range of probes: 14 for magic-angle spinning (MAS) for rotor diameters 0.7 mm (from 2018), 1.0 mm, 1.3 mm, 2.5 mm, 3.2 mm, 4 mm and 7 mm, a static probe and a double rotation (DOR) probe. Nearly all users visit the Facility in person to carry out experiments, with support provided by the Facility Manager...

Advanced Research Computing Service

Submitted by martin_callaghan on Mon, 07/22/2019 - 11:59

We provide a comprehensive Advanced Research Computing (ARC) support service for researchers in all faculties at the University of Leeds. The service consists of a large High Performance Computing (HPC or Supercomputing) resource consisting of several clusters which are used for all forms of predictive modelling, data analysis and simulation which are too large, too complex or too time consuming to be performed on a Desktop PC. In addition, we can support researchers in the use of Cloud...

Airborne GeoSciences Facility

Submitted by thomas_wade on Mon, 07/22/2019 - 11:59

The Airborne Geosciences Facility was established to support environmental & geoscientific research and teaching through the development, integration and operation of advanced airborne sensing technologies deployed on both manned and unmanned aircraft. We operate our own ECO-Dimona light aircraft alongside a fleet of small unmanned aircraft systems, and a suite of remote sensing and atmospheric instruments. Our stated goal is to provide the core capability to promote and develop an...

Analysis & Materials Characterisation Suite

Submitted by rich_adams on Mon, 07/22/2019 - 11:59

Plymouth University is extremely well equipped for analysis and materials characterisation. We have the expertise and equipment to assist with problems related to polymers, ceramics and hard metals, metallic alloys and composite materials in areas such as: Imaging: materials and components can be examined at magnifications from 1x to 1,000,000x using normal light, electron, confocal laser scanning and atomic force microscopes. These are operated via sophisticated software packages with a high...

ARCHER UK National Supercomputing Service

Submitted by joel_hirschi on Mon, 07/22/2019 - 11:59

ARCHER is the UK National Supercomputing Service. It allows researchers to run calculations and simulations that require a large number of processing cores working in parallel. The computer demands for such simulations far exceed the computer power typically available to an institution like ours (e.g. a local cluster). ARCHER allows us to run ocean and coupled ocean-atmosphere models that are at the cutting edge of the field. Generally, facilities like ARCHER enable the UK to be (and to remain)...

Archives Hub

Submitted by neil_grindley on Mon, 07/22/2019 - 11:59

The Archives Hub brings together descriptions of thousands of the UK’s archive collections. Representing over 350 institutions across the country, it is an effective way to discover unique and often little-known sources to support research. New descriptions are added every week, often representing collections being made available for the first time. Researchers can use the Hub to instantly scan the archival landscape and bring together diverse sources held in repositories across the country. The...
