Astbury Biostructure Laboratory

Submitted by prof_alex_bree… on Mon, 07/22/2019 - 11:59

The ABSL is a flagship ~£17M investment by the University of Leeds (with an additional ~£1M of funding from the Wellcome Trust in 2016 and again in 2020) in cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR) for structural molecular biology and biomedicine. It was formally opened in January 2017 by Dr Jeremy Farrar, Director of the Wellcome Trust.

We offer equipment access and expertise to researchers from our University and beyond, welcoming external users...

Atmospheric Measurement and Observation Facility

Submitted by dr_barbara_brooks on Mon, 07/22/2019 - 11:59

The AMF was established in April 2014, following a review of NCAS’s ground-based facilities and the service they provided to the community. Its remit is threefold: (i) to deploy instrumentation and provide a quality-controlled data product for field measurements; (ii) to provide underpinning laboratory facilities for calibration and experimentation; and (iii) to provide access to NCAS field sites for guest instrumentation. In 2018, under the direction of NERC, AMF merged with its sister facility...

Auchencorth Moss

Submitted by dr_matthew_jones on Mon, 07/22/2019 - 11:59

Auchencorth Moss Atmospheric Observatory (AMo), is a research infrastructure sited on an ombrotrophic peatland at 270 m elevation in South East Scotland (55ᵒ47’36”N, 3°14’41” W), which is managed by the Centre for Ecology & Hydrology (CEH). It is used primarily to carry out research on atmospheric composition, surface-atmosphere exchange of pollutants and studies in carbon catchments.

The landscape of Auchencorth Moss was first used in 1994 to study fluxes of methane (CH4) gas. In 1995...

Authentication, Authorisation and Accounting Infrastructure and Services

Submitted by bob_day on Mon, 07/22/2019 - 11:59
The set of AAAI (Authentication, Authorisation and Accounting Infrastructure) services operated by Jisc provides a national framework for the management of access to RII resources across the UK. This framework includes authentication of an individual user of a RII; authorisation of that user to access RII resources; and, where appropriate, accounting for that use for charging or for auditing purposes (for instance where there are compliance implications such as those around access to sensitive...

Avon Longitudinal Study of Parents and Children

Submitted by nicholas_john_… on Mon, 07/22/2019 - 11:59

ALSPAC is a multi-generational study that began as a pregnancy/birth cohort. In 1991 and 1992, 14,500 pregnant women living in and around Bristol were recruited into the study. Detailed data have been collected on these women and their partners (the original parents, known as G0) and their children (the index participants, G1). In recent years the study has also enrolled the children of the children (G2).

The overarching objective for ALSPAC is to maintain its position as the premier multi...

BGS Landslide Observatories UK

Submitted by helen_reeves on Mon, 07/22/2019 - 11:59
Hollin Hill Landslide Observatory, North Yorkshire At Hollin Hill a system of monitoring landslide movement has been developed by BGS by combining geomorphological mapping, terrestrial LiDAR and real-time monitoring with geophysics. Scientific research at this site has been designed to enable BGS to accurately monitor and eventually aid the forecasting of movement of the landslide. It brings together a combination of field surveying, geomorphological, geophysical, engineering and...
